Bolivar, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team fell at the hands on Lincoln on Thursday evening 75-49. With the loss SBU drops to 8-7 (3-6 MIAA) on the season.
Lincoln opened up the scoring in the second minute of play, while a Brian Patterson layup with 16:09 left in the first half gave the Bearcats a 5-4 lead. However, Lincoln responded with a 10-0 run as SBU trailed 14-5 with 13:49 to go in the half. After LU extended their lead to 24-8 with 7:40 in the half, the Bearcats used an 8-0 run to cut into the Blue Tigers lead. Nate Nahirny hit a three, connected on a pair of free throws, and after a Kalehl Brown steal, Cartier Dean hit a three to pull SBU within 8 at 24-16 with 4:37 left in the half. However, LU ended the half on an 11-2 run as SBU trailed 35-18 at the break. In the second half Lincoln slowly continued to build their lead, as SBU would eventually fall 75-49.
Cartier Dean led the way for the Bearcats offensively, giving SBU 13 points, while Nate Nahirny was also in double-figures with 10 points. Logan Hovey pulled down a game high 10 rebounds while also chipping in 9 points. As a team SBU shot 32.6% from the field, 28.6% from beyond the arc, and 56.5% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, January 16 when they host Lindenwood. Play is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center.
