The Mansfield Lady Lions cruised to an easy 19-point win over the Seymour Lady Tigers on Thursday evening.
“It’s a win, and we’re always tickled about that,” said Lady Lions head coach Gary Greene.
The Lady Lions were led by a strong shooting and rebounding performance by freshman standout Karsyn Brooke, who scored 21 points,
“Karsyn had a strong game,” Greene said. “For a freshman, she’s really proving herself to be a good player for us.”
The Lady Lions led 13-10 after the first frame, then a big second quarter push lengthened their lead to 32-20 going into the half.
The scoring would stay steady through the rest of the contest, with the Lady Lions outscoring the Lady Tigers by 18 and 19 points through the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
“Our defense had some holes, leading to some easy layups (for Seymour),” Greene said.
Behind Brooke’s performance came 14 points by senior Morgan Price and 11 points by junior Calista Bogart.
Junior guard Emily Cantrell was Seymour lone scorer in double digits with 12 points on the evening.
The win brought Mansfield’s record to 9-13 on the season. The Lady Lions will host the state-ranked Lady Tigers of Stoutland on Monday evening.
The Lady Tigers will travel south to School of the Ozarks tomorrow (Friday) evening, along with the boys squad. Next week begins the Seymour Lady Tigers Invitational Tournament. The host team (seeded fifth) will start the week with a contest against Bakersfield (4) on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
