POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – Evangel split a doubleheader with College of the Ozarks on Tuesday in Point Lookout, Missouri falling in game one 5-4 on a run in the bottom of the seventh and winning game two 13-8.
Evangel rallied from a 4-0 deficit after two innings in game one only to lose on a College of the Ozarks run in the bottom of the seventh. Evangel shortstop Jordan Kirkpatrick’s single in the top of the seventh tied the game at 4-4 as he drove in Kyle Thurman. The Bobcats responded in the bottom half of the inning and won the game on Tad Mitchell’s one-out, bases loaded single. Kirkpatrick went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s to lead the Evangel offense.
The Crusaders scored 13 runs in the first three innings on their way to a 13-8 win in game two. Evangel posted five runs in the second inning and six more in the third. OF Ryan Frye went 2 for 3 with a double and 4 RBI’s for the Crusaders while Kyle Thurman drove in three runs going 1 for 2. Josh Lachnit got the win for Evangel in relief.
The split put Evangel at 2-6 for the season while College of the Ozarks went to 3-6.
The Crusaders play their home opener on Friday.
