Evangel University had two women’s basketball players selected to the Heart of America all-conference team on Monday with Allison Swanson and Taylor Longley both earning recognition.
Allison Swanson was selected to the second team on the all-conference list. It marks the third year in a row Swanson has been named the all-conference team. The junior center from Omaha, Nebraska was 15th in the league in scoring at 11.4 points per game. Swanson was also a leader in rebounding categories finishing 13th in rebounds per game with 6.4, 10th in offensive rebounds per game with 2.2 and 14th in defensive rebounds per game with 4.2. Swanson also finished sixth in blocks averaging 1.1, she finished the regular season with two double-doubles and had a conference-high 18 rebounds in a game against William Penn on Jan. 9.
Taylor Longley was an honorable mention selection. The junior guard from League City, Texas averaged 9.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game in an injury-shortened season. Longley, who missed the first two months of the season recovering from knee surgery finished third in free throw percentage in conference play with a mark of .803, and was ninth in assists per game. Her 16 rebounds last Saturday at Peru State was the fourth best rebounding performance in a game this season in the league.
Evangel begins the Heart of America conference tournament on Tuesday, March 1st when they travel to Des Moines to take on Grand View. Tipoff is scheduled or 7:00pm.
