After some early season struggles, the Harrison (Ark.) Goblins’ spirits were lifted with an 11-2 victory against Nixa on Saturday.

The team dropped two games to Little Rock Christian earlier this week.

Harrison head coach Greg Crow said, “I thought we grew up a little bit. We were a lot better offensively. We’ve really been struggling offensively.”

Nixa started off Saturday’s game with a slim one-point lead after the first inning, but couldn’t manage to score for the remainder of the game.

“I’m pretty disappointed,” Nixa head coach Howard Greenwood said. “We were in the game. It was a tight game, and then all of a sudden they blow it open.”

After racking up points in the third, fourth and sixth innings, Harrison was sitting pretty comfortably (6-2).

But the final inning made the Goblins’ on-the-road win even sweeter.

A total of five Harrison athletes scored.

Caleb Huskey and Daniel McCormick scored on separate RBIs to make it 8-2 in Harrison’s favor.

Adding to the excitement, Peyton Weber, Andrew Crawford and Cooper King brought the score up to 11-2 thanks to Quinn Cherry’s three-run double.

“We played 18 kids that game and they all contributed,” said Crow.

Greenwood said of his Nixa team, “We expected to hit better and throw more strikes, but it didn’t really happen. By the characteristics of our pitchers, we usually throw more strikes. And one thing we’ve squatted with a little bit this season is getting a timely hit. We had some opportunities in the game to score some runs and we just didn’t get the timely hit.”

Both Nixa (4-6) and Harrison (3-2) also battled Pembroke Hill High School on Saturday.

Results have not been announced at this time.

Nixa will take a few days off before hitting the road on Thursday to play the Parkview Vikings in Springfield.

Harrison’s next game will be on Tuesday at Morrilton, Ark.
