The first couple of innings were scoreless, but Stockton was just getting warmed up.

Stockton head coach Darin Henderson said, “We saw Lockwood in the jamboree and they’ve improved a lot. We came out a little flat, I think, because we saw them early. It took us a little while to get going, but we got there.”

Jacob Wheeler, Alex Wheeler and Colton Brown each scored a run, grabbing a 3-0 lead to close the third inning.

Two more Stockton players, Garrett Burns and Cameron Ramsey scored in the fourth inning to get a comfortable 5-0 lead.

With runners on first and third in the fifth inning, Burns took off to steal second.

A Lockwood error resulted in both runners, Mason Brown and Burns, scoring to get an even more comfortable seven-point lead.

Another couple of runs from Brice Bird and Brown made it 9-0 in the sixth inning.

But Lockwood wasn’t about to go down without a number on the board.

Justin Nentrup hit a double, and later scored on Ben Schnelle’s single.

No one scored in the final frame, giving Stockton the dominant 9-1 away victory.

Winning pitcher Eli Hubbard threw 15 strikeouts on the afternoon.

“We battled pretty well,” Lockwood head coach Larry Stuart said. “I mean, I’m proud of the kids. I know it’s a 9-1 ballgame and you wouldn’t think so, but that’s a good team right there.”

Lockwood (5-1) will take the remaining week off to prep for another Tiger crew on Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Lamar High School.

Taking a much shorter break, Stockton (7-1) will host the Marionville Comets at home 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
