Joplin School District’s request for membership into the Large Division of the Central Ozark Conference (COC) was approved today, April 15, 2016, by a vote of the COC Board of Superintendents.
In order to gain membership, Joplin was first required to submit an application, after which the COC Superintendents granted permission for the COC Executive Committee (made up of COC Principals) to research the Joplin School District. The Executive Committee conducted an evaluation, site visits, and interviews, and then made a recommendation to the Board of Superintendents. The Superintendents then had two months to take the recommendation to their boards to gain a consensus. The final step in the process was today’s vote.
COC President, Logan-Rogersville Superintendent Dr. Shawn Randles believes Joplin will be a positive addition to the conference – “On behalf of the COC, the Superintendents are excited to welcome Joplin to what we feel is the most prestigious conference in the state of Missouri. We look forward to their collegiality, to sharing each other’s best practices, and to encouraging a high level of competition on the fields and courts; as we are all partners in education and all want the best for Southwest Missouri students.”
