After a strong performance at Tuesday’s Ozark Conference Golf Tournament, the Glendale Flacons will be adding more medals to their massive, historical collection.
The magnificent five collected top honors as they bested a 10-team field with a low score of 292, as well as score impressive individual numbers at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.

Christopher Obert shot a 69(-3) to lead the conference champions and nab first-place individually over a total of 47 golfers.
Obert’s action started with an eagle at the seventh hole. After a bogie on 11, he made a couple of birdies to rally to the victory.
Obert was not only pleased with his own performance, but also his entire team’s.
He said, “When we have a team like we do, we always push each other to get better and better. You can see it with our JV team when they compete in some of the tournaments with us that we have a good varsity team that brings better players up too. We keep the development going with the players, the competition and the practice, and knowingly, you have to be really good to make our team.”
The star golfer is right about this. His teammates weren’t far off from his own score.
Sam Holmes shot a 71(-1) to place second overall on Tuesday, followed by Alex Locke and Chase Gafner with 76 each.
Falcon No. 5 Graham Sherrard shot a low score of 78 – unused in adding up the final results.
Glendale head coach Chris Obert said, “It seems like a recurring thing for the team. Unfortunately today, Graham went out and played a really good round of golf at six over, but it was good enough to get an honorable mention for the conference. He was really just one shot out of being All-Conference.”
“It’s great that we can drop a 78. 78 is obviously a great score,” team member Obert said. “The fact that we have so many scores to choose from shows anybody on our team can do what I did today. Anybody on our team can shoot low. I think that’s what’s awesome about our team is that anybody can go out and win it.”
Despite the frequent wisps of warm wind and Sherrard’s thrown out score, Coach Obert was all smiles at the end of the tournament.
“It’s the effort of the kids, that’s what it is,” the coach said. “That goes with really any sport or anything they do in life. It’s the amount of effort they put in. Their effort equals what they’re doing right now. If they continue to keep learning and keep putting in the effort, they’ll keep getting the same results they’re getting.”
Lebanon High School’s Cooper Hess, Jake Ehrhardt, Harrison Carr, Lawrence Bowlin and Tryn Titus combined for 319 to take second place.
Hess and Titus made the Top 10 list (4th) with a score of 76 each.
The Rolla team placed third, followed by Camdenton, West Plains, Kickapoo, Hillcrest Joplin and Waynesville.
Camdenton’s Seth Crockett, Kickapoo’s Logan Smith and Rolla’s Ben Burris and Stewart Meusch also placed in the Top 10.
Now, for Glendale, only the Class 4, District 5 tournament approaches.
Golfer Obert said, “As a whole, we’ve been successful this year, and I think we put in a lot of hard work. And I think we still have one more week of hard work before districts. We’re just going to go out and keep working hard and doing what we do.”
“Next week’s going to be a whole new week,” said Coach Obert. “The preparation between now and then is not going to change anything. We’re not doing anything different than what they normally do. They go out and they play golf. That’s what their practice is; it’s playing the game of golf. When it comes tournament time, that’s what we’re doing is playing the game.”
