Rain or shine, the Glendale Falcons were there all season and Tuesday it all paid off with a Class 4 state golf championship at Silo Ridge in Bolivar; third in school history (1975 and 2007).
"They certainly have put in a lot of work and today it pays off," said head coach Chris Obert. "The last two days have been tough to play golf, but these guys did a great job dealing with adversity."
Despite cold temps and steady rain both days the Falcons fired a combined 637 (314 and 313) to beat Rockhurst by six strokes.

Senior Sam Holmes was the Falcons' top individual, tying for 5th place with a two-round total of 153 to earn all-state honors.
But it was fellow senior Christopher Obert who had the biggest turnaround. Obert wasn't in the points on day 1 with a miserable 85. Tuesday, he bounced back with a team-best 74 to finish 22nd overall and essentially seal the title for Glendale.
"Yesterday I don't think I was ready toughness-wise with the weather and I let it get to me," said Obert. "I think today I came out ready for the cold. I came out in winter gloves. We didn't have range balls. Sometimes playing cold turkey is just the way I go."
Consistency was the key for this group all season as Chase Gafner and Alex Locke shot two-day scores of 159 to join Obert in a tie for 22nd place. Graham Sherard was right there in the mix tied for 33rd.
Any given day one of the five could step up.
"It's definitely a lot of fun playing with these guys knowing that anyone could be the low on the team and that we're going to back each other up with low scores," said Holmes.
But for Coach Obert it's more than just consistency that makes this team special.
"The kids have put in so much effort and that shows their character," said Obert. "They're greatful kids. Their parents have done a good job."
The Falcons have dominated the entire season, but despite that they've kept extremely humble.
Now they can finally celebrate.

"Every time we've won a tournament we've had a small celebration then move past it preparing for the next step," said Christopher Obert. "I think now that we've actually accomplished this we can look back and be proud."
Kickapoo's Logan Smith earned all-state honors with a two-day total of 158 to finish in a seven-way tie for 15th place.
