The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that Cardinals C Brayan Pena and RHP Seth Maness are scheduled begin Rehab Assignments with the Springfield Cardinals at Hammons Field this week.

Pena is scheduled to begin his Rehab Assignment with Springfield on Tuesday, June 7 when the Cardinals start an eight-game homestand with a 6:30pm First Pitch. Tuesday's game features the Six Flags St. Louis Kids Ticket Giveaway (2,000 kids, 48 inches and under) and is a Great Southern Bank $1 Dog Day with hot dogs for just a buck.

Maness is scheduled to begin his Rehab Assignment with Springfield on Wednesday, June 8 when the Cardinals take on the Arkansas Travelers at 6:30pm.

Pena, 34, is in his first season with the Cardinals after signing as a free agent on December 7, 2015. The 11-year Major League veteran broke into the big leagues in 2005 with the Atlanta Braves and has compiled a .260 batting average with 23 home runs, 164 RBIs and 466 hits through 629 career games with the Braves, Kansas City Royals, Detroit Tigers and Cincinnati Reds. His career batting average is 2nd only to C Victor Martinez among switch-hitting catchers in the Major Leagues.

A native of Havana, Cuba, Pena spent the last two seasons as the primary catcher for the Cincinnati Reds, suiting up in 223 games from 2014-15. Last season, Pena not only notched a career-high 91 hits, but also led all National League catchers with an incredible .999 fielding percentage, committing only one error in 715 total chances.

Maness, 27, has been one of the Cardinals top relievers since making his Major League debut with St. Louis on May 3, 2013. The groundball specialist led all Major League relievers with 39 double plays induced between 2013-15, and owns a career 15-9 record with a 3.34 ERA through 228 big league appearances.

An instrumental part of the 2013 National League Champion Cardinals in his first Major League campaign, Maness had also played a crucial role on the Texas League Champion Springfield Cardinals in 2012. In his lone Springfield season that year, Maness went 11-3 with a 3.27 ERA through 20 starts.
