Two local swimmers had impressive days at the US Olympic Trials in Omaha Monday.
Bailee Nunn, a Marshfield native who will join Drury as a freshman next year, and rising Missouri State senior Lauren Pavel finished 70th and 71st, respectively, in the 100 meter breaststroke.
Nunn finished in 1:11.57, while Pavel, who swam in a different heat, finished in 1:11.60.
"Swimming today in the Trials was a dream that I have been chasing for two years," Pavel said in a Missouri State press release. "It was amazing to be a part of the fastest meet on American soil, in my hometown."
Drury head coach Brian Reynolds believes that Nunn is the first Springfield swimmer to go straight to the Olympic Trials out of high school. Even though she'll be joining his program as a freshman in the fall, Reynolds has coached her for years already.
“Brian is such a good coach," Nunn said on signing day. "He's raised me, swimming-wise, since I was ten and made me the swimmer that I am today. So it's a privilege to be able to swim with him for another four years.”
