Taste of the Town: The Mountaineer

Not every team is unified. I discovered the deep divide in Mt Vernon's locker room as they got a little home cooking in this week's Taste of the Town.

Aptyly named, The Mountaineer Grille celebrated its second birthday last month. Mt Vernon defensive lineman Austin Peake's mother Teresa owns the restaurant which started as a food truck – and eventually grew into this building.

Austin is a loyal customer.

"I eat it every day, usually," Peake says.

Mountaineers head coach Tom Cox appreciates the effort it took to grow the business to where it is now. "They worked their tails off to renovate this place and it's just fantastic," he said. "Lunch and dinner it's always crowded. I think it's the best burger in southwest Missouri."

There's even one called the Mountaineer with chili, cheese, and cole slaw, plus all the regular burger toppings. But, despite going to a place known for its burgers, some of the Mountaineers football players ordered something… different.

"I got the chicken," Mt Vernon quarterback Garrett Hadlock admits. Why? "I don't know."

Three of his teammates agreed with their quarterback. But there were an equal number of Team Burger supporters

"I'm team burger," Peake said. "You can't trust [Team Chicken]."

It's tied 4-4, so I have to break it. Check out the video to see the result!
