No. 2 Carl Junction 38, Republic 20 – FINAL — CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS
A week after shocking everyone in the Ozarks except Chad Plein and a couple other guys at the O-Zone you probably should get to know with a win over Webb City, the Bulldogs continued to roll, staking a 21-0 first-quarter lead and moving to 2-0 in the process. Republic actually made this a game despite the early deficit, scoring a pair of second-quarter touchdowns. CJ put things away late in the fourth quarter, turning an 11-point game into the final score on a 59-yard touchdown run by Riley Watkins.

Going back to last year’s state title loss, Webb City is on a three-game losing streak, their first since losing to Camdenton, KC Central and MacDonald County in 1998. The Lakers led 21-20 at the half and 41-20 in the third before West Plains got within one score late in the fourth quarter. Bolivar’s Connor Sechler tied the game at 42-42 with 40 seconds left on a 5-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Emmert, but went for two and failed, forcing overtime. Oh, to have a kicker.
