Missouri State's Aubrey Cheffey picked up Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honors Tuesday after making her season debut last week at the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic.
Cheffey hit .410 in three matches in Hawai'i, averaging 2.11 kills and 1.00 blocks per set with a .487 kill percentage. The Nixa, Mo., native led the Bears with 11 kills on 15 swings with a .600 attack efficiency against Pacific on Saturday, adding a team-high five blocks in the sweep of the Tigers.
Against 15th-ranked Hawai'i in her first match of the year on Thursday, Cheffey had four kills and two blocks without committing an error. Friday versus No. 8 UCLA, the rookie added four kills, two assists, two blocks and a dig.
Cheffey and the Bears host the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational at Hammons Student Center Sept. 8-10, beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. against McNeese State. MSU also plays 12th-ranked Ohio State at 7 p.m. Friday, and Western Illinois and IUPUI on Saturday.
