Phillip Dowden (Evangel Sports Information) SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Evangel University women’s basketball team used a big second half to pull away from St. Gregory’s (Okla.) for a 74-45 victory Monday night in non-conference action.
The Crusaders outscored St. Gregory’s 23-8 in the third quarter after leading 28-22 at halftime. After struggling at the free throw line in their first two games, Evangel showed drastic improvement shooting 82 percent from the line and going 19-of-23.
Evangel was led by Reggine Brown who scored a game-high 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting. As a team, the Crusaders shot 42 percent from the field in the win while Taylor Longley and Allison Swanson also finished in double figures with 11 and 13 points respectively.
Defensively, the Crusaders forced just 11 turnovers but recorded seven steals including four by Longley who added five assists. Evangel also held St. Gregory’s to just 25 percent shooting in the game and 19 percent in the second half going 5-of-26 from the field.
St. Gregory’s was led by Kylee Tatum’s 17 points as the only Cavalier to score in double figures.
