Evangel men lose for third time in four games

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A back and forth second half saw Mount Mercy pull ahead of the Evangel men’s basketball team in the final minutes for a 93-80 victory in Heart action Saturday.

Evangel was led by Dylan Bekemeier who scored a season-high 20 points and added four assists.

The Crusaders pulled within 41-37 at halftime and eventually took a 66-60 lead with 9:33 left in the game. However, Mount Mercy went on an 8-0 run to regain a 75-68 lead with 6:25 remaining.

The Mustangs shot 48 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle 41-35 while also finishing with nine steals.

Joining Bekemeier in double figures, Josue Levy finished with 15 points and four boards while Nick Yocum added 12 points.

Mount Mercy was led by Ben Struss who finished with a game-high 26 points. Struss also knocked down five of the Mustangs 12 three-pointers in the win.
