Phillip Dowden (Evangel Sports Information) SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University men’s basketball team was unable to hang on to a 12 point lead as Benedictine knocked off the Crusaders, 89-70, Tuesday night in Heart Conference action.
Benedictine was lights out from the field shooting 53 percent and knocked down 11 three-pointers in the win. Evangel was 8-of-23 from behind the three-point line but lost the rebounding battle 40-20.
The Ravens got 11 second-chance points and 50 points from its bench as the Crusaders managed just three second-chance points.
Richard Chapman led the Crusaders with 17 points and three boards while Nick Yocum and Marcus Miller also finished in double figures. Yocum added 13 points while Miller finished with 12.
Benedictine got 27 points from Adam Kutney and 22 points from Jake Schannuth to lead the way. Shannuth was 4-of-6 from behind the three-point line and pulled down 12 boards to earn a double-double.
