Phillip Dowden (Evangel Sports Information) SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University women’s basketball team fell in the final seconds Tuesday night, 68-67, to 11th-ranked Benedictine in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.
The Ravens broke the 11th tie of the game with 1:18 left in the game on a pair of free throws from Kristen Murphy. Evangel would get three more looks at the basket in the final minute but come up empty in all three attempts as Benedictine hung on for the win.
Both teams came out hot from the field shooting 44 percent in the game and over 50 percent in the second half. Each team also knocked down eight three-pointers in the game, as the scoring edge was controlled at the free throw line. Benedictine finished 16-of-24 while Evangel was just 7-of-13 at the line. The Ravens also controlled the glass as they won the rebound battle, 40-23.
Evangel was led by Randi Hancock who finished with 18 points and five rebounds. Madi Johnson added 11 points as the duo combined for six of the eight three-pointers for Evangel.
Benedictine was led by 16 points from Murphy who also added eight boards.
