SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Drury Lady Panthers improved to 8-1 and 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 78-50 win over Maryville on Saturday at the O’Reilly Family Event Center.
Drury started to pull away midway through the first quarter going on a 13-0 run that put them in front 18-6 late in the opening period. The Lady Panthers built on the lead from there going up 42-22 at halftime and they led by as much as 30 in the second half.
“Our goal was to come out strong with lots of energy so I was pleased that we were able to hold them to 11 points in the first quarter,” said Drury head coach Molly Miller. “We did a good job with our defensive rotations. If they back-door cut, Daejah (Bernard) was there for a charge and Briana Jones also had a charge with some help defense. I really liked our pressure.”
The Lady Panthers scored 30 points off of 27 Maryville turnovers.
Lexie Vaught scored a collegiate career high 13 points leading four Lady Panthers in double-figures. Heather Harman added 12, Paige Wilson 11 and Bernard pitched in 10.
Ali Ringering had 18 points for the Saints to lead all scorers. Ringering went 6 for 9 from the field and 4 for 5 from three-point range.
Maryville dropped to 3-4 and 0-2 in the GLVC.
The Lady Panthers are on the road for a non-conference game for their next contest. Drury travels to Arkansas Tech for a 5:30 p.m. game on Wednesday in Russellville, Arkansas.
