COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Evangel University men’s basketball team led from start to finish Saturday night for a 91-74 victory over Shepherd University to close action at the Assemblies of God Classic.
The Crusaders never trailed in the game and led by as many as 22 points late in the first half before taking a 37-27 advantage into intermission. Evangel rode hot shooting the entire game shooting 71 percent in the first half and 55 percent in the second half including a season-high 12 three-pointers.
Led by seniors Nick Yocum and Richard Chapman, the duo scored 17 and 16 points respectively in the win. Chapman finished 6-for-6 from the free throw line and pulled down six boards.
Junior Dylan Bekemeier added 15 points and 11 assists for the Crusaders as well. Evangel tallied a season-high 26 assists on 30-of-48 shooting.
Shepherd was led by Donja Brooks and Knigel Key as both players tallied 20 points.
