SBU scores season high 106 versus Kansas Christian

Bolivar, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University men’s basketball team took a 30 point halftime lead over visiting Kansas Christian before cruising to a 106-65 victory. With the win SBU improves to 7-4 on the season.

The Bearcats jumped out early on the Eagles, taking a 15-0 lead four minutes into the contest. Andy Campbell hit a pair of three’s, while Brian Patterson and Karim Mouliom both found success in the paint to help spark the strong start for SBU. The Bearcats extended their lead to 20 off of back-to-back buckets from Mouliom, including a fast break dunk, to go up 26-6 with 11:06 left in the half. Both teams exchanged buckets before SBU used a small 5-0 run to push their lead to 25 (33-8) with 9:29 remaining in the half. The Bearcats continued to push, and took a 57-24 lead off of a Kalund Brown layup with 29 seconds remaining in the half before taking a 57-27 lead into the break.

SBU opened up the second half with another three from Campbell, followed by a Campbell layup to push their lead to 35 (62-27). KCC would eventually cut the SBU lead back to 28 (76-48) with 10:09 remaining before the Bearcats used a 12-2 run to extend the lead to 89-51. SBU used a pair of three’s from Louis Baltazar and a three from Brown to help fuel the run. SBU would hold steady, and another layup from Brown pushed the Bearcats above the century mark (101-61) with 1:45 to go, and a three from Trey Woods with 29 seconds remaining gave SBU their largest lead of the night at 42 (106-64) before SBU would finish the game with a 106-65 victory.

The Bearcats had an impressive six individual career high scoring nights in the victory. Louis Baltazar led the way with 21 points to go along with 9 rebounds, while Andy Cambpell was a perfect 7-7 from the field for 18 points. Also earning career high’s were KarimMouliom (14 points), Kalund Brown (8 points), Trey Woods (6 points), and Campbell Lakatos (2 points). Brian Patterson also pulled down 9 rebounds, while Cartree Pettis dished out a team high 6 assists. As a team SBU shot 60.9% from the field, 50.0% from beyond the arc, and 59.3% from the free throw line.

SBU will be back in action on Saturday, December 31 when they host Ozark Christian College. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
