There’s a new name atop the Glendale High School boys’ basketball career and single-game scoring lists.
Falcons junior Monty Johal became the program’s all-time career scoring leader (1,623) Tuesday night with a 51-point outburst against West Plains. His 51 points also set Glendale’s single-game mark, which was previously held by Tom Shultz, who scored 47 in a January 1974 game.
Johal entered the night with 1,572 career points and needed 14 more to surpass Spud Harbour’s mark of 1,585 set in 2007.

Johal easily reached that in the first quarter, scoring 17. He scored 13 in the second quarter and added 20 more points in the third quarter before sitting out the final eight minutes.
Glendale won convincingly, 110-69, after leading 73-39 at halftime.
Johal now has 1,623 career points with the remainder of his junior season and a senior season still ahead.
The Springfield Public Schools boys’ career points record is held by former Hillcrest Hornet and current NFL wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, who scored 2,092 from 2008-2012.
Green-Beckham is also the only SPS boys’ player to ever reach the 2,000 points plateau.
