Missouri State will enter the 2017 season without a pair of potential starting quarterbacks.
Coach Dave Steckel announced Wednesday during the team’s national signing day event for fans that quarterbacks Breck Ruddick and Michael Briggs are no longer on the team.
Ruddick has been dismissed for violating terms of his behavioral contract issued by Steckel. Ruddick faced animal cruelty charges last season and was eventually suspended for the remainder of the 2016 season. For more on Ruddick’s suspension and charges, CLICK HERE.
Steckel also announced that Briggs will play baseball at Missouri State. Briggs, who was a prized late signee in the Bears’ 2015 recruiting class, redshirted as a true freshman and played sparingly in 2016.
The Bears also graduated senior starting quarterback Brodie Lambert from their 2016 team, meaning Missouri State will enter 2017 with three new names on its first, second and third-string QB depth chart.
Missouri State’s returning QBs from last season are redshirt freshman Sam Hall, a West Plains native, and redshirt sophomore Brett Geisz of Eureka.
Steckel announced Wednesday that the Bears had signed a trio of quarterbacks for their 2017 class. Peyton Huslig and Anthony Monken are JUCO transfers, while Dalton Hill is a true freshman from Lee’s Summit.
