Drury men, women both lead at GLVC swimming and diving championship

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – Drury’s men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams are in the lead after the first day of competition at the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

The Drury men’s team has 196 points and is 25.5 points in front of second place Missouri S&T who ended the day with 170.5 points. Indianapolis is in third with 94.5 points.

Drury’s women’s squad has an 18-point lead over second place Truman State. The Panthers have 203 points, Truman State has totaled 184 and Indianapolis is in third with 104.

The Panthers women’s team won all four events in the first day. Erica Dahlgren, a freshman from Sweden, won the 1000-yard Freestyle and set a GLVC record by five seconds with a time of 10:02.13. Marshfield freshman Bailee Nunn took the 200 Individual Medley crown with a time of 2:00.60 and Vera Johansson, a junior from Sweden, was first in the 50 Freestyle. Drury’s 200 Medley Relay team with Katya Rudenko, Zuzanna Chwadeczko, Johansson, and Caytee Wright also finished first.

Men’s swimmer Konrad Stepien, a freshman from Poland, won the 1000-yard Freestyle and Drury swimmers also took second and third place in that event. The Panthers finished the night with a 200 Medley Relay win as Aiden Glynn, Andrea Bazzoli, Jun Han Kim and Rodrigo Caceras edged Indianapolis by 0.44 seconds.

The GLVC Championship continues tomorrow starting the preliminary heats of the 400 Individual Medley.
