SPRINGIELD — The Missouri State University Ice Bears, a Division 1 member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, announce the Missouri State Hockey Club Player Board and head coach Bob Bucher have agreed to part ways effective immediately.
One of the responsibilities of the player board is electing the coaching staff and assistant coach Ryan Armstrong will act as interim head coach through the remainder of the 2016-17 season.
“Coach Bucher raised this organization’s competition level and brought it to new heights,” said Ice Bears Player Board President Brendan McClew. “We hope the best for him in his future endeavors.”
Bucher, the fifth coach in team history, led the Ice Bears to a 112-62-3 record in five years behind the bench. He also aided the team to a pair of ACHA Division 2 Nationals appearances and was instrumental in the organization’s transition from Division 2 to a Division 1 hockey program.
“Bob has done wonders for our organization. His commitment and love for the game of hockey is undeniable, as is the love he has shown for our organization,” said Ice Bears General Manager Rhonda Ashlock.
The Ice Bears are currently 15-22 with four games remaining on the schedule including two at Arkansas Feb. 10-11 and two at home Feb. 17-18 against Lindenwood-Belleville.
A search for the next head coach is underway and the club will make announcement once the interview and hiring process is completed.
