Missouri State’s Liza Fruendt was honored Monday as the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league announced with its final round of weekly women’s basketball awards this season.
Fruendt had one of the top offensive games in MVC history with 46 points on Thursday at 22nd-ranked Drake, and averaged 31.5 points and 7.5 rebounds on 50 percent shooting over the weekend.
The junior guard’s point total at Drake ranked as the fifth-best in MSU history behind only Jackie Stiles, ninth-highest total in league history, and fourth-most in the NCAA this season. Her 17-for-31 shooting performance tied for third at MSU in terms of field goals and included six 3-pointers. She added six rebounds and three assists in the game, scoring 28 points in the second half and 42 in the final three quarters.
Saturday at UNI, the Batavia, Ill., native came one rebound shy of a double-double while scoring 17 points. She shot 22-for-44 overall and 11-for-13 from the line for the week with eight 3-pointers.
The Lady Bears (16-13, 12-6 MVC) are the No. 3 seed at this week’s MVC Tournament in Moline, Ill., and open play on Friday at 8:30 p.m. against sixth-seeded Evansville.
