It’s considered the Super Bowl of fishing and the Ozarks has a dog in the hunt.

Forty-year-old Aldrich, Mo. (off Stockton Lake) native Scott Clift will be competing in the 47th Bassmaster Classic Mar. 24-26 at Lake Conroe outside Houston, Tx.

“To be in the Bassmaster Classic is a dream come true,” said Clift, who works in Nixa.  “It’s something I gave up on when I was 27 and for it to happen now when I’m 40, it’s amazing.”

Clift took off for Texas Wednesday afternoon from Republic Ford, one of the sponsors who are making his journey possible.

He is one of 52 competitors battling for the $1 million purse, and while he considers himself an underdog, is going with high hopes.

“I think the fish are really going to be biting,” said Clift.  I’m going up against 51 of the world’s best anglers and me, so it’s going to be a handful, but everybody’s got their day.  They haven’t caught one yet.”

Clift, who was literally the final entry, earned his spot in the Bassmaster Classic by winning the Toyota Bonus Bucks Bassmaster Team Championship in a fish-off at Kentucky Lake back in early December.

“This is awesome, just awesome!”
