KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri State junior standout Alize Johnson (F, Williamsport, Pa.) was named to the District 16 first team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches with the organization’s announcement of its annual NABC All-District teams this week.
The teams were selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in Division I.
Joining Johnson on the NABC District 16 first team are fellow Missouri Valley Conference performers UNI’s Jeremy Morgan, Wichita State’s Markis McDuffie, Loyola’s Milton Doyle and Illinois State’s Paris Lee.
Johnson is the first Missouri State player to be named to the NABC All-District first team since Kyle Weems in 2012.
This season, Johnson earned MVC Newcomer of the Year and All-MVC first-team honors while also being named to the MVC All-Tournament Team. He was a two-time Valley Player of the Week and six-time Valley Newcomer of the Week in 2016-17.
The transfer from Frank Phillips (Texas) College led the conference in rebounding at 10.6 per game, which ranks 11th nationally. He also led MSU in scoring at 14.8 points per game while producing 17 double-doubles – the 14th-most in the nation — with 21 double-figure rebounding games. He also finished with the second-highest season rebounding total of Missouri State’s Division I era (351) while converting 48.8 percent of his field goals and 39 percent of his 3-point attempts.
