Springfield, MO – The Texas League announced on Monday that Springfield Cardinals RHP Jack Flaherty has been named the Texas League Pitcher of the Week for April 17 – 23.
Flaherty, 21, was dominant through his two starts on the week, tossing 13.2 scoreless innings with only eight hits and two walks while striking out 14 between the two outings. Flaherty began his week with 7.2 shutout innings with only two hits allowed while striking out nine to pace the Cardinals to the 3-0 win against Midland on April 17. He then followed it with 6.0 scoreless frames on April 23, allowing just six hits while striking out five to guide Springfield to the 8-1 victory in Arkansas.
The Burbank, CA native has started his Double-A career by going 4-0 with a miniscule 0.33 ERA through his first four starts. In a league-leading 27.1 innings of work, he has surrendered only one run on 15 hits and three walks while striking out a league-best 24 batters. With his scoreless start on Sunday, Flaherty extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 16.2 straight innings without a run, going back to the 4th inning on April 11.
In just his fourth professional campaign, Flaherty was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1st round of the 2014 June Draft out of Harvard-Westlake High School in California.
