The Rogersville High School boys golf team hasn’t had a go-to player this season.

The Wildcats have had multiple of them.

Jackson VonBehren became the fourth golfer to post the low score for Rogersville this season and help lead the Wildcats to a Class 3 District 6 title on Monday at Springfield Golf and Country Club.

“I give credit to all five of my golfers,” Rogersville coach Keith Spalding said. “Jackson’s been one of our best golfers the last two years. He came out today and proved he’s still one of the best we have on our team.”

The Wildcats posted a 316 to win under adverse weather conditions. Monett was second at 377 while Springfield Catholic and Webb City tied for third at 346.

VonBehren posted a 74, the low score for the day, to lead the way for Rogersville, which finished seventh at state last year.

“I really relied on my short game and my putting around the green today,” VonBehren said. “I had very few putts and I put my chips close. It really helped me to score low.”

The Wildcats, returning four players from last year’s team, have hopes of making another state run.

Jimmy Hutchingson shot a 78, while Jacob Hefley (81), and Drew Ritter (83) rounded out the top scores for Rogersville, which will send its entire team to sectionals.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do. I’m sure there’s some of them out on the green right now, practicing right now,” Spalding said. “We’re just looking forward. We’ll take one day at a time. We really like our opportunity going forward.”

Carl Junction’s Tyler Markham took second after posting a 75. The junior missed the state cut by one stroke a year ago. It was also Markhams’s first year playing golf.

After the success he had last year, Markham is determined to take his game to the next level. So far, he has.

“To make it that far (last year), I was pretty happy with myself,” Markham said. “But missing the cut by one was definitely upsetting. It definitely gave me motivation to come out here and do better.

“My average is a lot better than last year. I think I’m definitely improving as the year goes on.”

Dylan Garner of Cassville and Hutchingson both posted a 78, while Monett’s Caleb Long shot a 79 to round out the top individual performances on the day.

With a second-place finish, Monnet’s squad of Long, Clayton Kaiser (80), Lane Witt (87) Shane Pass (91) and Thomas Sangston (94) automatically qualify for the sectional round.

Drake Johnson (84), Nick Palmer (87), Walker Tynes (87), John Gambon (88) and Michael Zolfahari (89) earned All-District honors while making the sectional cut as a team for Catholic.
