SPS athletic director plans return to collegiate sports Randy Stange, Springfield Public Schools athletic director, has been selected by Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, KS, as its new athletic director. Stange, who has worked for SPS since 2015, said when he was approached with the opportunity, he considered the impact he could have coaching and mentoring students at the collegiate level.
“This is an unexpected opportunity that offers me the chance to return to collegiate athletics, which has always held a special interest for me. I believe it is a good fit for me, and I hope the students and staff at Johnson County Community College will find it to be a good fit for them as well,” Stange explained.
Stange said he is grateful to all the people at SPS, especially coaches, and to the people in Springfield who have supported him. “I really do appreciate all the friendships I have developed here and the opportunities I have had to learn and grow. SPS is doing amazing things for students and I know that will continue to be a focus.”
“Over the past two years, Randy has been a tremendous asset to Springfield Public Schools, strengthening our athletic and activity programs, and most recently playing an important role in the expansion of middle school sports and activities,” said Dr. Justin Herrell, executive director of student services. “We wish him well on this new endeavor.”
Stange’s last day with SPS will be June 30.
