College of the Ozarks head men’s basketball coach Steve Shepherd is pleased to announce the signing of five new players for the 2017-2018 season—Calvin Allen, Dominique Young, Treydon Rackley, Deric Jones, and Seth Viebrock.

Calvin Allen hails from Arkansas and attended Bryant High School.  He averaged 13.6 points, 5 assists, and 2.2 steals per game for the Hornets. A 7A All-Conference performer, Calvin was named to the 2017 7A All-State tournament team. Coach Shepherd expresses enthusiasm about his newest player, saying, “We are excited to sign Calvin to play for us at College of the Ozarks.  His character and work ethic make him a great fit for Hard Work U.  I like his ability to play point guard. In addition, his ability to be a playmaker on both the offensive and defensive ends is what made him so attractive to us.”

Grandview Christian 2016 graduate Dominique Young, from the Kansas City area, averaged 21 points and 11.9 rebounds during his tenure. Coach Shepherd says of the potential double-double man, “We are excited to add Dominique to our Bobcat basketball team. He can score, defend and rebound. I like how hard he plays, and his intensity will be infectious to our whole team. He will also be a great fit for our campus community.”

Former Republic Tiger Treydon Rackley is next in the lineup of newcomers. The 6’2 shooting guard averaged 14.7 points and 2.1 assists per game for the Tigers. Rackley was named first team All-State and All- District, while also attaining Ozarks Conference Large Schools Player of the Year for 2016-17. Coach Shepherd comments, “We are thrilled to add a player of Treydon’s caliber to our basketball team. He fits so well with our style, plays great defense, and has high energy. Treydon can score inside by getting to the rim, as well as from the outside. He creates opportunities for others and really passes the ball well. Treydon comes from a winning high school program and knows what it takes to be successful.”

Deric Jones, was a member of the Hartville Eagles Basketball team that won four Summit Conference Championships and four District Championships.  His team also won the Class 2 State Championship his junior season in 2015-16.  Deric was a 3-year varsity starter for the Eagles and was named All-Summit Conference and All-District in each of those 3 seasons.  Deric was also named to the MBCA All-State team the last two seasons.  Deric is an outstanding student, who was named Academic All-State this year.   “We are excited to sign Deric Jones to play basketball at College of the Ozarks,” stated Shepherd. “Deric helped lead his team to a state championship, and collected All-State honors. He will bring a winning mentality and be a great addition to our program.”

Closing out the list to date is Seth Viebrock from Nixa High School.  Seth earned first team All-Central Ozark Conference and first team All-District, as he helped lead his team to 25 wins and a district championship.  He averaged 11 points, 6 assists, and 2 steals per game. “Seth Viebrock will be a great addition to our school and basketball program,” noted Shepherd. “He is an outstanding young man and comes from a very successful basketball program. Seth is a true point guard who can shoot, drive, and pass. He is a leader and elevates the play of everyone on his team. We are excited to add Seth to our recruiting class for 2017-18.”
