Dixon’s Meier named co-MIAA Freshman of the Year

Kansas City, Mo. – Southwest Baptist University pitcher/outfielder and former Dixon High School standout Andrew Meier has been named the co-MIAA Freshman of the Year to highlight SBU’s honorees on the 2017 All-MIAA Baseball Teams.

Meier hit a team leading .403 on the season to earned co-Freshman of the Year honors, while also earning 2nd Team
All-MIAA honors in the outfield. Hunter Hisky earned the teams only 1st Team All-MIAA honor at catcher. Hisky hit .402 on the season while leading the MIAA in RBI (57), Hits (80), and Doubles (22). Hisky also earned Gold Glove honors after throwing out an MIAA high 28 base runners during the season.

Caleb
Sneed earned his second straight All-MIAA nod by earning 3rd Team honors at third base. Sneed hit .332 on the year while scoring 47 runs to go along with 15 extra base hits. Chance Wolfe also earned 3rd Team All-MIAA honors at designated hitter, hitting .350 with 76 hits and a team high 19 stolen bases.

All-MIAA Honorable Mention honors were starting pitcher Brian Womack, second baseman Nelson Muniz, shortstop Sean Murley, and outfielder’s Jovany Urbieta and Clint Jack. Womack led the Bearcats in wins with 8, while Muniz hit a team high 10 homeruns while also driving in 44 runners. Murley hit .330 and scored a team high 51 runs, while Urbieta hit .374 with 7 homeruns and 46 RBI and Jack hit .310 with 44 runs scored.
