The Cabool High School volleyball team has high hopes for this season.
But the Lady Bulldogs also know they have a tough slate in front of them following a season in which they went 19-11 after falling to Willow Springs in a Class 2, District 9 semifinal.
“We’ve always got that district championship in our eye,” head coach Katie Shockley said. “We’ve got some stiff competition.”

The Lady Bulldogs will host the Class 2, District 9 tournament this year with Houston, MV-BT/Liberty, Licking, Sparta and Willow Springs.
Cabool loses a key piece from last season with the graduation of Second-Team All-SCA Conference libero Alyssa Matherly.
“On the reverse side of that, we’ve got some strong hitters coming back,” Shockley said. “We’ve got a pretty strong, tall group of front-row hitters coming back.”
The Lady Bulldogs bring back four front-row hitters who earned all-conference honors in 2016. Jaydra Johnson (senior, first team), Joelle Atkins (senior, second team), Kaitlen Beller (senior, honorable mention) and Grace Shockley (sophomore, honorable mention) are all returners.
Grace Shockley could play the front row or set for Cabool this season. Freshman Olivia Scheets will see significant playing time at the varsity level and is another option at setter.
“It’s going to be a good season,” Katie Schockley said. “It’s going to be fun.”
