It doesn’t get much more efficient than the offensive show Camdenton put on Friday night.

Consider Camdenton’s first-half performance against Parkview on Friday night:

• Twenty-nine plays from scrimmage.
• Eight touchdowns.
• Over 400 yards of total offense.

If not for a pair of turnovers, it could’ve been more.

Camdenton unloaded on a depleted Parkview defense, gashing the Vikings early and often on its way to a convincing 70-34 victory at JKF Stadium.

When the smoke cleared, Camdenton had amassed 793 total yards from scrimmage. The Lakers gashed Camdenton with four one-play scoring drives, three of which went for 45 or more yards.

“It felt very nice,” said Camdenton senior split end Jacob Hill, who had 109 total yards and a pair of touchdowns. “Coming out and just… we scored quick, quick, quick. It helped us out in the long run.”

The Lakers (4-1 overall) put up 36 points in the first quarter alone. Lakers senior Todd Simpson rushed for 225 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only four carries. He had touchdown runs of 90 and 95 yards.

Senior quarterback Isaiah Lumley completed 10 of 11 passes for 173 yards and three scores. He completed passes to seven different receivers.

“We have a lot more receivers than we’ve had in past years,” Hill said. “We have a lot more skill throughout our offense than just a run-offense.”

The Lakers attacked a Parkview defense that was missing about five starters, including two defensive backs.

“We wanted to throw the ball a little bit tonight, we felt like we could,” said Lakers coach Jeff Shore. “We’re typically a run-first, throw-second team. We’ve been throwing the ball well in practice, but our last few games have been situations where we’ve been running a lot of clock.

“We really threw the ball in practice this week and came out throwing it tonight. Offensive line played great and we were able to take some runs to the house with long scores.”

A four-yard touchdown run by Trevor Boice brought Parkview within 15-7 midway through the first quarter, but Camdenton responded with five unanswered touchdowns to take a commanding 50-7 lead.

“Parkview’s very good offensively. They have some weapons and you can see, they can put up points in a hurry,” Shore said. “It sounds funny in a 70 to whatever ball game, but I felt like we answered every time Parkview scored. We did a good job answering, because they’re dangerous offensively.”

Parkview running back Blake Delacruz had 191 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries. Boice rushed for 91 yards and two scores.

The Vikings (1-4 overall) were coming off an overtime road win at Waynesville last week.

“Offensively, we move the ball pretty well. We make some good plays,” said Vikings coach Paul Hansen. “We just have to do a little bit better overall.”

Camdenton emptied its bench for the second half. At least 15 players recorded a reception or rushing attempt for the Lakers.

“We’ve been doing that all season,” Shore said of Camdenton’s balance. “If you look at our stats, we don’t have one guy who’s ran for a bunch of yards or caught a bunch of passes. We have multiple guys that have rushed, a lot of guys that have touched the football. Hopefully that makes us harder to defend.”

Camdenton also worked Jay Griffin into game action. Griffin, the team’s leading rusher last season, missed the first four weeks after injuring his knee in the Lakers’ jamboree scrimmage.

“He’s still not quite 100 percent, but this was a really good test for him tonight,” Shore said. “I’m hoping by next week he’ll be ready to go 100 percent.”

The Lakers host Rolla next Friday. Parkview travels across town to play Glendale the same night.

“We just have to regroup,” Hansen said. “Our kids are still fighting.”
