By Tuesday morning, the news had spread.
From the word of mouth, to the streets of Douglas County, and finally, to his former players – all of those generations of former players.
Longtime Ava basketball coach, Don Sallee had passed away on Sunday.
Sallee was Ava’s first, All State basketball player. Â He played for Mizzou, spent time in Washington DC working counterintelligence, and then came home to coach his Bears.
He retired three times, but always came back to his love – basketball.
Don Sallee was 88 years old.
