Mary Atnip enters his first season as head coach of the Diamond girls with some rebuilding to do. The Lady Wildcats are coming off of a 5-20 season and return just one starter from that team.
Junior Lauryn Macy is that starter. She averaged 5.5 points per game as a sophomore. Senior Alyssa Cain and junior Sidney McMullen were the first two players off the bench last season and will see much larger roles this season.
Juniors Alyssa Wright, Rosario Martinez and Catalina Rangel will be three of the key newcomers. Wright is a strong post presence for the Lady Wildcats. Martinez took a few years off from basketball and returns this year. Rangel will be a strong and quick defender in Atnip’s first season.

Sophomores McKayley Greninger and Katie Langford will also factor into the Diamond varsity equation. Greninger is an athletic presence that can play multiple positions. Langford is one of the team’s best shooters.
Atnip expects his girls to bring defensive intensity and quickness to the court, but depth will be an issue with just 13 total players on the squad.
Diamond will look for progression throughout the season as the Lady Wildcats try to build for both postseason and the future.
“Our goal is to become a very competitive team and give ourselves a chance to win every night,” Atnip said. “This team will be laying the foundation to what I feel is going to be a dangerous up and coming basketball program.”
