Seneca must replace two all-conference selections and five total graduated players from last year’s 9-18 team that fell to league rival Lamar in the district semifinals.
The Indians do return two starters, which will mix in with some new faces. The group has head coach Will King excited for what his 14th season as Seneca’s coach could bring.
“As always, I am excited for the upcoming season. We return some solid lettermen and have a good mix of newcomers that can hopefully fill some holes,” King said. “We expect great work ethic and great attitudes. If we can do those 2 things then I believe we can be successful.”

Things will start with returning senior starters Cameron Brattin and Gavin Dunnam. Brattin averaged 10.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season. Dunnam, who can play both in the post and on the perimeter, was just behind him at 9.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Fellow senior Brett Reeves also returns after lettering last season. Junior Gavin Clouse was a spot starter last season and should have an expanded role this season.
Seniors Josh Caputo and Jake Thurston and junior Payden Armstong along with sophomores Preston Armstrong, Isaiah Grotjohn and Gerald Russell will all factor into the varsity lineup this season.
“This upcoming season will be very interesting. This team has a lot of unity and experience together,” Dunnam said. “There are big opportunities this season and I feel we can take advantage of those and surprise people. Hopefully, the hard work this team has gone through can pay off this season.”
Seneca opens the season Nov. 27 through Dec. 2 at the Carthage Tournament.
