She’s at every home game.

But Missouri State’s biggest fan cannot hear the excitement.  She can’t see the action either.  And when it comes to cheering – she can’t yell.

It’s because Candy May is a mannequin.

“Fannequin,” Maroon Madness’ Mark Fentress corrected.

Yes nothing screams energy more than something standing still.  But it’s been a rallying point for the Maroon Madness student fan base.

“We need some more spirit here at MSU,” senior Ryan Surface said, “so we came up with Candy May.”

On social media, she’s a pro promoting the Bears

In the crowd, she dresses like the students; even gets in on the heckling.

“We were holding her up for the free throw,” Fentress said, “and her head popped off.”

I said she’s seeing some good basketball right now – as long as her head stays on.

“We’ve adjusting our technique of waving her around,” Fentress concluded.

As far as the hard, in depth journalism Candy May’s not talking about where she came from.  But I asked her her age and weight and didn’t get slapped – that’s a first for me.

About all I can tell you is, she’s an undergrad in business.

“Summertime, definitely trying to get a real mannequin job,” Fentress said, “but during the school year, it’s Maroon Madness.”

Yes, living the life of a college student, the games, the parties, the relationships?

“Marron Madness is all about professional relationships with us, and coaches, and players,” Surface said.
