“People probably don’t understand how heavy weight actually is until they get under it,” said Noah Sandridge, the Fair Grove senior.
“As a powerlifter, he’s extremely strong, he’s been extremely strong since he was a freshman,” said the track and football coach Mark Talbert.
Sandridge currently holds the state bench press record.
“I have it in two weight classes, in the 225 [weight class] it’s 345 [pounds], and in the 250 class it’s 355 [pounds],” said Sandridge.
Weighing in at 235 pounds, Noah can bench more than his body weight, which makes him a force on the football team too. But, he’s not out there holding the line.
“Obviously he’s a bigger guy that plays running back for us, which you don’t see very often. He runs the ball with some passion,” said head coach Bill Voorhis.
His approach to football and power lifting is calm, cool, and collected.
“I don’t ever get nervous. I was actually just telling a kid not to get nervous, because it’s not that big of a deal. If you don’t get it, you don’t get it,” said Sandridge.
