Evangel freshman forward Justin Washington has been suspended for the remainder of the season due to a violation of the university code of conduct.  Director of Sports Information Phillip Dowden confirmed the story and said no other details were available at this time.

“Justin’s been a real pleasant surprise for us this year,” said head coach Steve Jenkins.  “It’s not the first time we’ve had disciplinary issues.  It’s not a fun situation, but if you don’t address it that’s not the correct answer.”

Washington is still with the team, but will not be in uniform for Wednesday’s home finale against Baker.  Jenkins was unclear what his future with the team will be.

“That bridge we’ll cross when we get to it,” said Jenkins.  “At this point he will not be with the team.”

“We don’t have these problems all the time.  It’s disappointing anytime someone lets you down, but that’s the nature of being a coach.”

A 2014 Crane High School graduate, The 6-foot-5, 190 lb Washington came to Evangel this season after being out of basketball for the past three years.

He was leading the Crusaders with 18.9 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, starting all 26 games he played.

Washington scored 22 points Wed. Feb. 14, but did not play in Saturday’s Senior Day loss to Mt. Mercy.
