SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State forward Reggie Scurry (Atlanta, Ga.) has announced his intentions to transfer at the end of the current semester and play his final college basketball season elsewhere.

Scurry, a 6-foot-5 player who came to MSU from Northern Oklahoma Tonkawa College in 2017, was named to the MVC All-Bench Team this season after averaging 8.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in 21 appearances.

“I appreciate the support from the fans, coaches and my teammates,” Scurry said. “I loved every minute here — on and off the court.”

Bears’ new head coach Dana Ford, who took the helm on March 22, indicated Scurry’s decision was one to which he gave much deliberation.

“Reggie has expressed his desire for a fresh start,” said Ford. “He is a fine young man with a bright future in every respect. We wish him well.”

Scurry scored in double figures eight times and earned a pair of starts in his only season in Springfield. He logged a career-best 18 points in MSU’s victory over MVC champion Loyola at JQH Arena on Dec. 22 and also matched a career high with 7 rebounds in that game.

Despite missing the last 12 games of the season with foot injuries sustained in a Jan. 22 cryotherapy session, Scurry finished second on the team with 19 blocked shots, while his 186 points was sixth-best total on the 2017-18 MSU squad.

With Scurry’s departure, Ford is expected to have nine returning players for his inaugural campaign at Missouri State, including starters Jarred Dixon, Obediah Church and Mustafa Lawrence. The Bears also lost five seniors from this season, in addition to redshirt freshman Greg Williams who announced his retirement from the game due to medial reasons.
