Lewis was the area’s top tennis player after posting a 30-2 overall record in singles this past season. Both of his losses came in the Class 2 state tournament where he finished fourth overall. He was the No. 1 player for a Joplin team that finished 21-1 overall with its lone loss coming to state champion Columbia Rock Bridge. Lewis and Gustavo Garcia combined to go 26-1 in doubles play.
