The Glendale Lady Falcons posted a blistering score of 326 to claim this year’s Class 2 District 5 golf tournament held at the Whispering Oaks golf course in Marshfield on Monday afternoon.

The Falcons were led by junior Wriley Hiebert who recorded rounds of 41 and 37 en route to carding a tournament best 78. Also contributing to the Glendale victory were Susannah Blackwell- 81, Jadaea Asa- 83, Haile Jungmann- 84 and Olivia Baron- 99.

“I’m really proud of these kids. They’ve been working really hard and improving each week,” said Glendale head coach Ron Yocum. “We’ve had a goal all year to be playing our best golf at the end of the season and that’s exactly what they’re doing.”

“Last week they shot a 330 to win our conference tournament and today they carded a 326 to grab the district title,” he said. “Their effort, as a group, was just great. A 78 and three scores in the 80’s- I don’t think I can ask much more of these kids.”

As district champions the Lady Falcons will now be moving on to compete in the sectional tournament next Monday set to take place in Joplin.

“We all know that this time of the year we need to show up every week,” said Blackwell. “And for the past two weeks that’s exactly what we’ve done. Now we have a chance to compete at sectionals, all of us as a team, and that’s an awesome feeling.”

Also making the trip will be this year’s district runner-up Rolla along with All-District members and six sectional qualifiers.

Rolla shot a 346 at this year’s district tournament. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Marliere Toothaker who carded a 79. She was joined by teammates Audrey Collier- 84, Hannah Hilker-86, Emma Hobbs- 97 and Abby Hobbs- 97.

“Last year we didn’t have enough girls to field a team. But this year, with the help of our local pro we were able to get a junior golf program started which helped to generate more interest for our team,” said Bulldog head coach Zachary Nixon. “This year we have ten girls out, all with great attitudes and work ethics. We still have a lot of work ahead of us though. We haven’t been to a state tournament in more than a decade so we know what we’d like to do at sectionals next week.”
