It will be a rebuilding year for the Hermitage girls after losing all but two players from last year’s team that went 25-4.
“We will just start over,” Hermitage head coach Shane Salmon said. “We have some good freshmen coming in and a couple of sophomores that did not play last year and will spend a lot of time working on fundamentals to improve all aspects of their game.”
Two holdovers from last year’s team will be senior Lindsey Smith and junior Faith Sabala. Smith averaged 3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game last season.

All the turnover means Salmon will look to a host of new players to contribute this year. That group includes: seniors Jade Morris and Abby Irek; sophomores Shekainah Andres and Lily Hart; freshmen Sarah Webb and Chelsi Horn.
“We will play hard and guard teams pretty well,” Salmon said. “We will need to improve our ball handling and shooting and also find girls that can score consistently.”
The early going might be tough for the Lady Hornets, but Salmon hopes they are able to hit their stride later in the winter.
“This will be a challenging year at the beginning due to losing so many good players off last year’s team,” Salmon said. “We do have some good talent coming in it just may take us a little while to get going, but I feel we will be competitive with most teams later in the year.”
Hermitage opens the season on Nov. 20 at home against Green Ridge.
