The Galena girls enter the sixth season of the David Argo era looking to improve upon a 10-win season last year.
A core of juniors will lead the charge this year starting with Abby Rice at point guard.
“She will be the floor general on both ends,” Argo said. “She is a versatile player with good athleticism, she will be asked carry most of the load on both ends.”
Classmate Brittney Doucey is a stretch-five who will help space the floor. Maddison Jennings is a two-way player who can shoot the ball at a high rate according to Argo. Katelyn Lewbow rounds out the group of junior leaders. She will bring toughness to the team defensively.

Becca Baker is another junior who will step up with a bigger varsity role. Sophomores Emily Crider, Hailey Eutsler and Kayler McKnight along with freshmen Rebecca Baker and Hope Deines are Galena’s group of underclassmen that will contribute.
“These players are going to be asked to step into the fire and contribute on both ends,” Argo said. “This group brings excitement and speed to the court, along with depth.”
Galena will be strong at both ends, but will need to focus on the little things.
“I feel we have good speed, and we need to put that into play, along with decent size I feel we will cause trouble on both ends,” Argo said. “To become the team we need to be we need to get better at the little things. The players are going to have to buy in to the system, and compete every night, and once that happens we will be a scary team come district time.”
Galena opens the season on Nov. 20 at home against Lutie.
