The Greenwood girls return four of five starters from last season’s team that finished 9-11 overall. That one graduated starter was a good one in leading scorer and rebounder Meredith Montgomery who averaged 11.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
Senior Averi Kessler leads the returning players after finishing second on the team with 10.9 points per game last season. Classmates Fallon Yarnell and Emma McCall also return. Yarnell can score at every level on offense and is a strong rebounder and defender. Coach Kent Hedgpeth describes McCall as an “aggressive player with good speed that gained valuable experience last season”.
Juniors Sage Vahldick, Anna McNay and Kylie Schaller round out the upperclassmen.

The sophomore class is headlined by Keely Roberts and Mallory Montgomery. Roberts is an athletic player that ran the point last year while leading the team in steals on the defensive end. Montgomery will help stretch the floor with her shooting.
A group of five freshmen that includes Rachel Lordemann, Reagan Rosen, Belle Fletcher, Kiora Alaimo and Chloe Deppe will provide depth for the Lady Blue Jays.
“We have four starters returning and five overall players that saw varsity action last year. Team balance will be key in relation to handling pressure, rebounding, and team defense. Consistency on offense will be an important component as we make our way through a tough schedule,” Hedgepeth said. “Hopefully the experience some of our players gained last year will translate to being competitive in every game. As always I enjoy this group of players and look forward to the upcoming season.”
Greenwood opens the season Nov. 26-30 at the Everton Tournament.
