2019 Spring Preview: Thayer Baseball

Thayer will look to climb above .500 in coach Bryan Tate’s first season as head coach. The Bobcats finished 6-7 last season.

Senior AJ Gorham will be the top pitcher for the Bobcats and also see time in the infield. Gorham was 2-2 with a 4.74 ERA as a junior. He also hit .269 with four RBI and three steals.

Fellow senior Adam Martin will also see time on the mound and in the infield.

Junior Arthur Tate is one of the team’s top returning hitters. The infielder/pitcher hit .310 with five RBI and seven steals. Classmate Chase Cates will be the team’s top outfielder and also a pitcher.

This group of four upperclassmen will be key to Thayer’s accomplishing their big goals.

“The upperclassmen are dedicated, hardworking, and have made it personal goals to help our young team grow,” Tate said. “The players will have to make smart decisions and not let mistakes snowball.”

Sophomore Levi Poulette and freshmen Lane Grimes and Gaige Pitts will round out the pitching staff. Pitts will also be in the infield while Grimes competes for time in the outfield.

Look for Jordan Andrews and Bobby Dale to round out the infield with Kyrin Magnuson, Jesse White and Chris Cray compete with Grimes for time in the outfield.

Overall, the Bobcats will be young and have to play smart baseball to be successful.

“The players will have to make smart decisions and not let mistakes snowball,” Tate said.

Thayer opens the season on Mar. 25 at Dora.
