New Southwest softball head coach Shawn Johnson has one of the best weapons a coach can have on the softball diamond: a dominant pitcher. Senior Maggie Robbins returns to the circle from last year’s 16-7 district runner-up squad. Robbins, who will be a four-year starter, struck out 286 batters last season while hitting .512.
Classmates Heather Windes and Lacey Reeves also return to the infield give the Trojans a strong group of leaders. Reeves posted a .397 batting average while Windes was just behind her at .381 last year.

Bonnie Robbins had a breakout season as a freshman hitting .482 and will return to the infield in her sophomore year. Destiny Dulin also returns to the varsity lineup.
Johnson expects pitching and defense to be strengths, but would like to see improvement in every facet of the game for his team.
“I think we should strive to improve in all areas so we can be successful this season,” Johnson said. “I will consider it a success if we improve each game and are playing our best at the end of the year.”
Southwest opens the season on Mar. 15 at home against Diamond.
