FIRST TEAM
Hayley Frank – Strafford – Player of the Year
Hayley Frank was against the no-doubt player of the year after capping off her career with fourth state championship and a second straight Gatorade Player of the Year award. This honor is not a career achievement and her 2018-19 season average of 22.8 points, 13 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 2.1 blocks and 2.0 steals per game is enough to stand on its own. But let’s go ahead and talk about her career achievements. Historically, Frank is the most statistically dominant basketball player in Missouri history. She finished her career with 3,004 points (top 10 in state history), 1,629 rebounds (No. 1 in state history) and 824 assists (top five in state history). Her career three-point shooting percentage of 54.3% is also a state record (minimum 100 made threes). Second place on that list is 47.6%. Let that sink in. Missouri’s all-time leading rebounder is also the state’s most accurate three-point shooter of all time and first to hit more than 50-percent of her shots from deep for an entire career. That is a combination we will never see at the high school level in Missouri again.
STATS: 22.8 PPG, 13 RPG, 7.2 APG, 2.1 BPG, 2.0 SPG 68.3% FG, 51.3% FG
Alana Findley – Fair Grove
There are few players I have enjoyed watching compete over the last four years than Alana Findley. Findley was a varsity star from Day 1 and few players in the area matched her intensity on the court. She averaged a double-double as a senior with 21.1 points and 11.1 rebounds per game along with 3.9 steals per game. Findley will fit right in with Molly Miller’s Drury Lady Panthers and their defense-first, pressing style of play next year.
STATS: 21.1 PPG, 11.1 RPG, 3.9 SPG, 2.7 APG, 55% FG
Piper Francis – Liberty
Francis, the SCA Player of the Year, again scored the ball as well as any player in the area on her way to averaging 21.9 points per game. The SIU-Edwardsville signee posted good percentages as well shooting 40% from three and 47% from the field.
STATS: 21.9 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 3.0 SPG, 2.0 APG, 47% FG, 40% 3FG
Karlee Holland – Licking
Holland is not the biggest player on this list, but the Licking guard affects the game as much as any player in the area. She scored 20 points per game while setting her teammates up with 3.3 assists per game, as she led the Lady Wildcats to a fourth place finish in Class 3. Holland and the Lady Wildcats will be at the top of the list for state championship contenders entering next season.
STATS: 20 ppg, 3.8 RPG, 2.5 SPG, 3.3 APG, 1.2 BPG, 48% FG, 36% 3FG
Priscilla Williams – Branson
Most other years Williams would be the area’s player of the year. The 6-foot-2 guard affects the game in every facet as evidenced by her 29.3 points, 10.3 rebounds. 3.1 blocks and 3 assists per game. She is ranked No. 16 in the Class of 2020 and will be the area’s top player going into next season. Williams has taken in-home visits with the University of Michigan and Louisville since the high school basketball season ended.
